Can homeopathy be combined with conventional medicines?
Yes. I often see patients who are on quite heavy drug regimes. Sometimes they are looking to come off certain drugs and together we work to wean them from those medications, advising the GP as to progress.
Other patients are wanting help with problems seemingly unrelated to conditions which are already being treated. This is not a problem and sometimes patients are pleased to find that in the course of homeopathic treatment for something else, those conditions improve too.
How long will it take for me to feel better?
This depends on a variety of factors including the type of illness and your own individual characteristics. Often a complaint that has been bothering you for a long time may take longer than one which has recently developed. However, you will see clear signs of improvement along the way.
Is it true that I will feel worse before I get better?
This is a common worry that people have about homeopathy. The truth is that sometimes, not always, symptoms appear to get worse for a short time. However, this is usually mild and seen as a good sign - the remedy is taking effect and the body is having a bit of a spring clean. It is part of the healing process, but if it becomes a problem for you, then you contact me and we decide on an appropriate course of action. Many patients do not experience this at all.
Will I have to change my diet?
Some homeopaths ask their patients to avoid coffee, peppermint, menthol or eucalyptus as they may interfere with the action of the remedies. However, I do not usually find this to be necessary so long as your mouth is completely free of the taste of these things when you take the remedy.
Sometimes you will be given advice about your diet, or supplements, if this is relevant to your illness.
Can I claim on my private health insurance?
I am an approved health provider for Norwich Union Health Insurance, Birmingham Hospital Saturday Fund, Foresters and HSA Healthcare. If you are insured with any of these companies you should check your policy for details. If you are with another company, then it may still be worth checking your policy as I may be able to apply for their approval too. Currently, BUPA will not cover treatment by homeopaths.
